Erik Hall (b. 1981) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer-songwriter, and recording engineer living in Galien, Michigan. He is best known for his work under the name In Tall Buildings, a long-running vehicle for his spacious, experimental pop.
From an early age Erik played piano, guitar, and drums. He was a percussionist in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and studied music and audio engineering at the University of Michigan.
Erik has recorded and performed worldwide with In Tall Buildings, NOMO, Wild Belle, and His Name Is Alive, appearing at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Coachella, Pitchfork Music Festival, SXSW, WOMEX, Montreal Jazz Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, CONAN, and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
As a producer/engineer, Erik has made records for Lean Year (Western Vinyl) and Justin Walter (Kranky).
In 2019 Erik composed and produced the film score for The Night Clerk and contributed music to The Mountain, which premiered worldwide at the Venice International Film Festival and in the US at Sundance.
Erik has released three solo albums: In Tall Buildings (2010), Driver (2015), and Akinetic (2018). He is on the record label Western Vinyl.
