Erik Hall (b. 1981) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer-songwriter, and recording engineer residing in Galien, Michigan. He is best known for his work under the name In Tall Buildings, a long-running vehicle for his spacious, experimental pop.
Erik studied piano as a child and soon took up guitar and drums as well. He played percussion in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and went on to study music and audio engineering at the University of Michigan.
Since 2004 Erik has toured extensively around the world, sharing stages with Sharon Van Etten, Broken Social Scene, and Lord Huron, among others. As a member of Wild Belle, he has appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and CONAN.
As a producer/engineer, Erik has made records for Lean Year (Western Vinyl) and Justin Walter (Kranky). In 2018 Erik produced and co-wrote a song with Rick Alverson for his film The Mountain, which premiered worldwide at the Venice International Film Festival and in the US at Sundance.
Erik has released three solo albums of songs: In Tall Buildings (2010), Driver (2015), and Akinetic (2018). He is on the record label Western Vinyl.
